#1 SHUTTERSTOCK.com

Standout winner for sales & uploading this month

Shutterstock are the clear winners (again) for this month in stock footage sales for normal contributors!  Shutterstock are continually marketing aggressively their stock library.

Current Upload Approvals: About 2 days
Verdict: Worth listing with this month? YES

Pros:
footage sales are the best by a long shot!

  • upload systems are fast and easy

  • Acceptance times are good: Around 2 - 7 days

Cons:

  • They are TOUGH on acceptance ratios and know exactly what they want in the system,so be prepared for some rejected material.

  • Their support area is awful (Like 30 days slow)

#2 POND05.com

Close Behind Shutterstock

Current Upload Approvals: About 2 - 4 days

Verdict: Worth listing with this month? YES .. But Slipping

Heralded to be the "stock giants" they seem to be ramping things up a bit with improved sales. We have upgraded this rating only recently!
Search engine penetration is much better than it was, although approval times are still very SLOW!
Their upload acceptance ratios are tough but
reasonable. Support is slow, but there

Pros:

  • Reasonable sales

  • You can set your own price!

  • They have their own uploading portal (no FTP) which is good!

Cons:

  • Uploading is a bit clunky, but better if you use their templates

  • Views are quite poor for clips, but if you get one, sales are ok

  • Approvals are slow (30 - 60 days)!

  • Verdict: Would we list with them this month? YES

#3 I-STOCK.com
(Getty are same company)

A big move up into 4th place this month (from #8) Their new systems seem to be very good and sales have taken a big shift up! Fast upload model and good acceptance ratios.

PROS:

  • Monthly sales are on the way up!

  • They have good search engine penetration and their upload systems are very easy. They also feed into Getty Images as part of your uploading.

  • Their upload acceptance ratios are OK (Not too tough)

  • Support is quite good

CONS:

  • Criteria to become a member is a pain in the A

  • Your clips are reserved for their "premium clients" meaning you wont be that visible most of the time.

  • They have also stopped their affiliate program which is annoying

Verdict: Would we list with them this month? YES

#4 FOTOLIA.com

Now combined with Adobe stock

Current Upload Approvals: About 2 days

Verdict: Worth listing with this month? YES

Fotolia (& Adobe) are getting pretty aggressive with their stock and are now part of Adobe Stock. The idea being that graphic designers and editors can access the stock they need right there in Adobe Photo Shop or Adobe Premiere. A great idea and time will tell how it's accepted.

They have good search engine penetration and their upload systems are very easy. Quite different to everyone elses! (No descriptions and only 7 key words)

PROS:

  • Sales seem ok at this early stage.

  • Support is quite good

  • The management are actively recruiting stock sellers!

CONS:

  • Not quite as good as they think they are! (yet)

  • I'm not sure who approves their images and footage, but I'm guessing they aren't  industry people as they reject some very strange things.

#5 VIDEOBLOCKS.com (Now storyblocks)

Big downturn for video blocks in last 6 months!
Very disappointing considering the way they were going!

Current Upload Approvals: About 15 - 45 days

Verdict: Worth listing with this month? NO

Videoblocks are relatively new to the game and these guys were doing a
pretty good job with their unique "members only" system!  Sadly, they have opened the flood gates to all contributors and are hitting saturation point fast for the average  punter. meaning, not much revenue. They have good search engine penetration already and their upload systems are very easy. It's a very unique sales system for member only. Sales seem ok at this early stage.  Support is Excellent.

Pros:

  • You get 100% of sale price! (But they set the price)

  • Approval times are terrible 15 - 45 days

Cons:

  • No affiliate program at this stage

  • Only accept .MOV files

    Verdict: Wo
uld we list with them this month? UNSURE
